Renata Barros is an artist who has worked with different materials for more than 20 years. São Paulo, Rio, Paris, Berlin, Kohl, Santiago, Buenos Aires, and Brussels are some cities where the artist has exhibited recently. Her research and work mix concepts with the material in a perfect dialogue. She says: everything that interests me I take it as a “ludic serious behaviour”. The universe of Renata Barros is based on human thoughts,  science and literature, always adding different new media and supports.

For the last few years, Renata Barros developed art pieces and exhibitions in Brazil and Germany, where she lived for two years as a special guest from Heinrich Boll Foundation in Köln. Born in São Paulo, where she lived until 1981, she is graduated in Fine Arts of FAAP - Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado de São Paulo. After that, she travelled to France to study French civilization at Sorbonne University in Paris. Since 1984, she has been participating in group exhibitions in Chile, present in the MASP, museum collection as well at MAC (Contemporary Art Museum of USP), at Padre Anchieta Foundation and Heinrich Foundation in Boll and in Köln. Her work pieces experience many materials: wood, glass, photography, canvas painting, acetate, latex, etc. The relationship between the materials chosen to be used in every piece of work is very connected and meaningful to the artwork itself as you may see in the very object at her show in the series “Corações” (Hearts).  All, of them are supposed to provoke the “look” in an unconventional way and to be obligating people to exercise the “focus e pupil”. The look then jumps and relocates itself to meet other eyes: The artist’s ones, disposed in different corners of the exhibition as observing the visitors.

Renata Barros is an artist that works with different materials for more than 20 years. Renata works the contemporaneity with social and environmental concerns, her poetics is expressed through the experimentation of languages and materials. In her recent works she establishes wide relations of territory, dialoguing with Nature.
